About me

Career

I graduated from the University of Bradford in 2000 with a Masters in Software Engineering. Shortly afterwards I started working for a company in Yorkshire as a C++ developer working on components and new versions of existing software.

A year or so later I moved over to the interactive side of the company and started working on ASP websites combining Java applets, Javascript and DHTML with our custom ASP backend.

As new interactive web technologies took off we moved over to Flash development and ultimately Flex with ASP.NET as our backend using FluorineFX's implementation of Flash Remoting for communication.

I'm currently the Development Manager for a team of Flex/Flash developers in Chattanooga, TN.

Projects

I have several personal projects that I work on - have a look at the projects page for more information.

Downtime

When I have time I frequent the actionscript.org forums and help out other developers wherever I can. I think I've learnt as much as I've given over there as it's a fantastic resource for Flash/Flex/AS development.

I'm interested (in a very amateur way) in photography. I have a gallery available at my personal site at http://gallery.matthewbutt.co.uk.

I also play electric guitar, although sadly I don't have much time for this at the moment. The Fender sits in a corner and collects dust most of the time.

I'm remodelling our home here in Chattanooga. Despite its small size, work seems to be taking forever! We're moving walls and everything, so it's no small job.
