Google giving away free Motorola Droid and Nexus One phones to "top" developers via Developer Seeding program
On 2nd March I received an e-mail from "Android Market Seeding" at Google. A snippet of the e-mail reads:
"Due to your contribution to the success of Android Market, we would like to present you with a brand new Android device as part of our developer device seeding program. You are receiving this message because you're one of the top developers in Android Market with one or more of your applications having a 3.5 star or higher rating and more than 5,000 unique downloads. Pixel Bender tutorial
With the advent of Flash Player 10 at the end of 2008, Adobe opened up a new generation of image processing techniques using the Pixel Bender system. In its simplest form, Pixel Bender allows the Flash or Flex developer to run mathematical algorithms used for image processing (and in fact other tasks) at a greatly increased rate. Flash Player does this by offloading those calculations to the computer's graphics processing unit (GPU) which is often faster than the main CPU.
This tutorial demonstrates the use of the Pixel Bender system in Flex Builder 3.
Moving to Media Temple
Today I moved a load of sites (including this one) over to Media Temple. The process has been fairly painless, although I'm still trying to figure out a coupe of niggles.
Developing PHP/MySQL sites on Windows with XAMPP
I've recently been working on a PHP/MySQL site. My usual development technologies are Flex/.Net over IIS running on Windows 7 so I had to find the best way of running a WAMP system.
Windows 7
Unless you've been living in space for the last 6 months, you'll be well aware that Windows 7 was released yesterday. I've been running Windows 7 RC for several months now and have been very pleased with it. There are a myriad of reviews on the web so I won't go into the dull details, but there are several points that really make Windows 7 an excellent operating system for me.
